    📌 The Major Reform: MCQs Only!

    The Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) has introduced one of the biggest exam reforms in Pakistan's competitive system. All descriptive written exams have been abolished and replaced with MCQ-based tests only for posts from BS-16 to BS-21.

    Exam Pattern Under New Policy

    BS-16 & BS-17 Posts

    • One MCQ paper
    • 100 marks
    • Passing marks: 40%
    • Negative marking: 0.25 per wrong MCQ
    • 100 questions, 90 minutes

    BS-18 & BS-19 Posts

    • Two MCQ papers
    • 100 marks each
    • 40% in each paper
    • Negative marking applies

    Teaching Posts

    • MCQ-based
    • 50% passing marks in each paper

    BS-20 & BS-21 Posts

    • MCQ-based
    • As per advertisement

    FPSC Test Format Quick Facts

    • Test Type: MCQs 100 marks - 1 paper, 100 questions, 90 minutes (for BS-16/17)
    • Passing Marks: 50% aggregate (no sectional cutoff for most posts)
    • Interview: 200 marks for BS-17, 100 marks for BS-16 after written qualifiers
    • Final Merit: Written + Interview + Psychological for some posts

    CSS Competitive Examination 2026

    For CSS Competitive Examination 2026, the FPSC has decided that, with effect from CSS Competitive Examination 2026 and onwards, only one compulsory paper will be conducted per day instead of the earlier practice of conducting two papers in a day. This decision has been taken to facilitate candidates and to ensure smooth conduct of the examination.

    CSS Written Test Pattern

    • CSS Written Exam consists of 12 Subjects (papers): 6 Compulsory and 6 Optional
    • Each subject consists of 100 Marks
    • Every candidate has 3 hours of time
    • Total 1200 Marks: 600 for Compulsory subjects and 600 for Optional subjects
    • Passing marks: 44% in Compulsory and 33% in Optional subjects
